A Panel Discusses the Current SCV Economic Situation
Broker/Owner Dennis Verner of SCV Commercial Real Estate Services attended the October VIA Luncheon at the Valencia Country Club where a paned discussed economic development in the Santa Clarita Valley. This panel consisted of Jason Crawford of the City of Santa Clarita, Carrie Rogers of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Center(LAEDC), Jonas Peterson of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Center (SCVEDC) and Chancellor Diane Van Hook of College of the Canyons (COC).
Jason started off by thanking Santa Clarita Councilman Bob Kellar, whom was present, for fine leadership. He went on to discuss the eastern corridor that consists of Vista Canyon and Disney Studios. He also discussed the Needham Ranch project, which is slated to break ground soon. The City is attempting a two to one housing ratio. Jason oversees the Enterprise Zone and Filming Department for the City. SCV is home to 9 TV shows which attract over $20 million locally.
Diane Van Hook told a story of how Princess Cruises needed a place to train their workforce before moving to SCV. COC was able to step up. The local college is critical to our economic development. Carrie Rogers said that LA County is larger than eight states. The LAEDC is a valuable resource for anyone seeking information pertaining to Los Angeles County.
Jonas Peterson is responsible for attracting out of the area businesses and bringing them into the Santa Clarita Valley. He also helps in the retention and expansion of our current businesses.
